SUSTAINABLE FARM SANCTUARIES: TWO-PART PRIVATE INTERACTIVE GROUP DISCUSSION AND WORKSHOP
P.E.A.C.E. in partnership with Jill Tedeschi from Healthy Herd Consulting, is offering a two-part private interactive group discussion and workshop surrounding sustainable sanctuary operation for Canadian farm sanctuary operators.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED
SESSION 1: SUSTAINABLE SHELTER SYSTEMS
This first session centers on logistics: responsible capacity for care, sanctuary set-up, emergency planning, facilities, record keeping, cleaning schedule creation, forecasting needs with aging populations, communicating resident health changes, and more!
SESSION 2: SUSTAINABLE PEOPLE
There is no sanctuary without cooperative, communicative, balanced human teams. The second session centers around volunteer and staff management, compassion fatigue, boundary-setting, burnout, founder’s syndrome, inter-sanctuary relationships, veterinary relationships, donor relationships, work-life balance, martyrdom, toxic workplaces, and imposter syndrome. We see sanctuaries close all too often, leaders fall from grace, and once-revered sanctuaries transform into neglect cases. How can we ensure that this is a sustainable vocation for all who choose it?
Attendees will electronically submit questions and points for discussion before the sessions. There is no limit to the number of questions submitted per attendee.
SESSION 1: Sunday | November 14, 2021
SESSION 2: Sunday | November 21, 2021
BOTH SESSIONS: 10:00 AM PT | Each session is 60-90 minutes and facilitated through Zoom.
BOTH SESSIONS: $25 CAD
- Regular group hourly consulting calls with HHC are $45 USD per person. With an approximate cost of $135 USD / $169 CAD value for both group sessions of 90 minutes. The minimal charge for this workshop is mainly to help cover some of those costs, and make sure all attendees are committed to attend.
- Due to limited space (max 7-9 attendees), all individuals interested in attending will need to please fill out an online application form. Filling out the online application does not guarantee a spot.
- Please note, if accepted, all attendees will sign a confidentiality and code of conduct agreement.
MEET JILL TEDESCHI
Jill Tedeschi has over ten years of experience at US farmed animal sanctuaries, both small and extra-large. Starting as an intern, Jill has held various roles at sanctuaries, including Master Caregiver, Trainer, Shelter Manager, and Shelter Director.
Jill’s on a mission to cultivate resiliency among farmed animal sanctuaries. She’s seen too many well-intentioned sanctuaries close their doors due to overcrowding, mismanagement, overwhelm, and the lowering of standards. She’s seen too many good-hearted folks leave the vocation due to burnout, compassion fatigue, founder’s syndrome, or harmful work environments.
After years of informally consulting sanctuary operators, Jill started her practice Healthy Herd Consulting in 2019. Jill currently supports North American sanctuary operators through 1:1 work as a mentor and strategist. When she’s not working, you’ll find Jill doing something with salt: eating savory snacks, sweating, or swimming in the ocean.
